Incognito

December 29, 2007

There is a reason that I need to be incognito in this blog. Time and again, I see my friends (lets not even get started about the family) shocked by things that I believe in. In themselves, that should not bother me. But they kind of do.

For instance, the other day, I had written something in my other blog about the absurdity of life, borrowing from Camus and a friend called me to ask if I was suicidal. Then went on to advice me for an hour about the beauty that was life. Or when I blogged about the origin of faith and the false premise of religion, my parents were so scandalised that I got an extended disco version of ‘Rationality will not get you anywhere. Faith is called faith for a reason. Everyone must have faith or else life would become meaningless. Are you suicidal?

It is not that they disagree with me. I can take that. But the fact that they don’t want me to think and write the way I do. After a point, it begins to affect me and I don’t want to write about such ‘controversial’ things. When I write about cricket or cinema, everyone is happy. Poetry and art is eccentric but excusable. Basically, as long as I conform to popular thought and my views are in sync with what is OK to think, people are fine. The minute they see a deviation they will cry wolf and come to my aid.

Enough. So…this blog will be my freedom. A place where I can be myself without having to worry about reactions of X, Y and Z.
